Information about the United Way surveys
Girl Scouts of Milwaukee Area partners with the United Way of Greater Milwaukee to serve girls in our community. This partnership includes receiving United Way funding (approximately 11% of the agency’s funding) and providing evaluations from our programs to them. Recently, United Way shifted its evaluation system and requirements and we are sharing those changes with you.
The United Way of Greater Milwaukee seeks to improve lives by mobilizing resources. It seeks to address some of the most pressing needs in our community. For example, Milwaukee has the 2nd highest teen pregnancy rate and the 7th highest rate of poverty in the nation.
In order to show that United Way helps improve lives, it needs to collect information from the community. One way to do this is to survey participants in United Way funded programs. United Way has worked with researchers to develop questions about children and youth’s experiences in the Milwaukee Area. Their questions ask about issues that children and youth face today. These questions include topics such as:

Girl Scouts of Milwaukee Area, Inc. also seeks regular feedback from its members about their experiences in the program, evaluation of programs, and personal outcomes. We do this to make sure that girls are having the experiences they need to be come girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. These questions include topics such as demonstrating:

This year we will survey 10% of our girl membership or 1,400 girl members with the United Way surveys. Some Girl Scouts in our staff-led programming will be invited to complete a survey at the end of their programs. The first of these surveys will be implemented in late spring. Although some of the questions address sensitive issues, it is important for Girl Scout results to be included in the United Way survey results. Girl Scouts is uniquely positioned to provide survey results from a large and diverse group of girls. Our diversity crosses age, socio-economic, geographic, racial and ethnic, and religious groups.
