It is the Girl Scouts of Milwaukee Area’s policy that “An adult with outdoor skills training, or its equivalent, plans with the troop during the preparation for the camp experience and be in charge and present during the actual camping experience.”

Course offerings and registration forms can also be found in the Pathfinder or by clicking on the link.

Indoor/Outdoor Skills and Troop Camp Training:
This 2-part course, consisting of an indoor prep and outdoor camp experience, prepares an adult to take troops overnight camping. This course should be completed if a troop plans to build a fire or cook outside while camping. Includes pre-planning, program activities, fire building, and outdoor cooking.

Indoor/Outdoor Skills Mini-Course Training:
Consists of an overview of the Girl Scouts of Milwaukee Area’s properties, Safety-Wise, planning for camping and program ideas. No fire-building or outdoor cooking skills will be taught. You must take Outdoor Skills and Troop Camp Training or Cookout to build a fire and/or cook outdoors with your troop.

Cook Out:
This 2-part course consists of an indoor prep and outdoor cooking experience. The course teaches fire building skills, knife safety and knot-tying. This is for the adult who previously attended the Indoor/Outdoor Skills Mini-Course Training and now want to build fires and cook outdoors during camp-outs.

Tent Workshop:
Teaches the care and use of the Girl Scouts of Milwaukee Area’s council tents. Upon completion of this course, leaders may take their troop to tent units or check out council tents to use on non-council sites. If going to a non-council site, be sure to use the application attached to this guide.

Equivalency for Adult with Indoor/Outdoor Skills:
Exemption from camp session is available in the Resource Center for adults who can verify that they have sufficient knowledge about troop or youth organization camping. For questions contact Specialist: Training/Membership at 414-476-1050, ext. 1262. An Outdoor Skills Mini-Course is still required.
